CELEBRATING A CLEAN NEW ORLEANS

Street sweepers and garbage workers from SDT Waste and Debris Services celebrated the return of full funding for enhanced sanitation services in the French Quarter and downtown with a parade led by Rebirth Brass Band and SDT owner Sidney D. Torres, IV. Approximately 30 SDT employees had been temporarily reassigned while the city searched for funding for the extra services that have made this city's historic district famously clean. Today, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin announced $2.5 million in funding for services such as mechanical street and sidewalk sweeping, including use of lemon scented disinfectant, plus twice daily litter can patrols.

“Everyone in the SDT family is celebrating now that we can focus on doing what we love doing best – keeping this great city clean,” said Sidney D. Torres, IV, owner of SDT Waste and Debris Services. “These are tough economic times for everybody and when full funding was restored, it was a great cause for celebration. We look forward to a clean Mardi Gras season.”

City enforcing Trash Ordinance

The New Orleans Department of Sanitation instructed SDT Waste and Debris Services, LLC that it will pay for trash pickup at only 2,911 residences and small businesses in the French Quarter and DDD beginning February 1.

All locations with more than 5 units must contract with a private commercial hauler, like SDT, for trash pickup. The city has imposed a 45-day grace period before enforcing the ordinance. As of March 15, any locations which are ineligible for city service, must obtain commercial sanitation services.
